Senior Director, Business & Industrial

eBay’s Senior Director of Business & Industrial (B&I) owns the performance for this line of business across eBay’s site. The category includes Electrical & Test Equipment, Resturant & Catering, Packing & Shipping plus B2B shopping experience. He/She drives the development of comprehensive customer-focused merchandise strategies, including:  product assortment/selection procurement, pricing strategy, category site page and shopping experience optimization and business development.  The Senior Director of B&I will be responsible for driving growth through managing financial levers, inventory levers and site merchandising – with the goal to maximize business performance/profitability while accelerating growth and delivering on customer satisfaction.  The role leads an engaged cross-functional workforce by clearly communicating the strategy and defining ownership, effectively activating direct team and engaging support functions, driving standardization, and ensuring the empowerment of employees.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, strategic direction and operational rigor for the B&I business
  • Drive the implementation of strategies and tactics that optimize financial performance
  • Develop assortments and a go-to-market experiences that support the needs of the customer and the financial objectives of the Vertical
  • In partnership with the marketing team, develop customer segmentation targets and build performance plans specific to each target
  • Lead the analysis of market data, industry dynamics, local market intelligence, product trends, customer shopping trends, and the competitive landscape to assess growth opportunities and site enhancements
  • Strengthen relationships with sellers to maximize both profitability, inventory health and marketing
  • Develop talent; oversight for a team of Category Managers, Business Development and Product Liaison

Success will be measured by the following:

  • Year-over-year growth in Gross Merchandise Volume (Sales)
  • Category profitability
  • Market share growth
  • Inventory health and conversion
  • Successful Product launch and activation


Job Requirements

  • 10+ years of industry and eCommerce experience, preferably in Merchandising
  • Passion for eBay, eCommerce and Business and Industrial
  • Proven track-record of strategic planning and execution, and of taking projects from idea to full implementation in a large complex organization. Expert level experience integrating emerging trends and best practices into strategies
  • Ability to articulate vision and purpose of initiatives and programs as they relate to long-term goals and objectives
  • Strong partnership and influence skills; ability to broker mutually beneficial outcomes with stakeholders internally and externally
  • Strong people management skills with proven ability to build, inspire and lead a high-performing team
  • Very strong analytical skills and business acumen in a complex data environment; demonstrated ability to craft merchandising strategies
  • Demonstrated ability to use metrics to drive productivity, increase consumer satisfaction, and manage costs
  • Flexibility in responding to changing priorities
